Default Best Email application

Bored of Outlook Express now, been using it for 5 years, looked at Thunderbird, any recommendations?

I gave up on an email client and just use gmail now, I'm more than happy with it. Failing that I'd be using Thunderbird.

Outlook/Outlook Express make me want to drink Stella and fight people.

Thunderbird is awful, I've swapped to opera.

Opera is a good suggestion, I like Opera 10.

Another vote against Thunderbird.

We won't know for certain until the official release of Windows 7 (currently slated for 22nd October 2009, but there are various reports that it won't ship with an e-mail ciient. In my opinion MS have long been somewhat cavalier about preserving your e-mails; there are obviously certain companies who probably see that as an advantage of course.

P.S. For what it's worth I use Apple's Mail application.

Mutt. It's the fastest and most flexible mail reader available. Bar None. Still after 14 years.

View mail without an internet connection.

That said I don't ever have the need to download mail to reply to when I'm offline, work or personal.
