Another addict here. Having relatives and friends in many countries, I didn't use to know the first thing about what was going on in their lives. Not because I don't care but because I'm really rubbish at "Keeping in touch".
Yes, most of my friends have amazing jobs now and the hardest decision they seem to be facing in life is whether to go to Fidji or Bora Bora but you know what? I'm happy for them.
Peachy, I fully second the random invites thing, my UK school friends seem to think I'm a jet-setting party girl. Same for the stupid applications (the most recent idiocy being "Snowballs"), thankfully you can now "Block all invites from this friend", it's always the same few who seem to think my greatest desire in life is to be bitten by a vampire or buy my friends.

I recently had a flirt application or something installed and I'm adamant I didn't install it. I removed it and it came back. How can this happen? I have ex work colleagues on there and the last thing I'd want it some flirt application trying to propagate to them.

Do you look at other peoples profiles ? Either randomly or people you know, but with whom you are not really friends, or even friend-ly ?

BigD | I don't need to look at peoples profiles, they are posted in a feed to me all the time.

Is that the way it works ? So people are effectively pushing details of their new girlfriend or BMW, or photos of their package holiday to Benidorm into your mailbox ? How rude.

BigD | I have just loaded it on my trendy iPhone - One friend uploaded pics from the Miami WMC
- another has a busy day ahead
- somebody has left their phone at work and is annoyed about this.
- somebody commented on somebodies photo
- a friend is friends with somebody i have never heard of
- a friend is a fan of "the forth"
- somebody joined a group called "<their surname> are the best"
- somebody was tagged in a photo album

BigD | I usually only add people I a) am really friends with, b) know in person and like and c) know being friends with is useful. When I add someone new, yes, I look at their profile, just to see what they are about.
Where FB can be upsetting is in the case of a friend of mine who was dumped by another friend of mine and who seems to be reduced to watching his every move. She's forever putting these vaguely passive-aggressive messages in her status and I ended up telling her off.
And FB can be like sixth form, with people randomly un-friending you for no apparent reason...

I like it but have been overwhelmed with invites to do things like "grow plants on lil green patch" or "santa yourself" etc., so have 239 unanswered "requests" littering my home page and I don't know how to get rid of them in one swoop without loading a load of sh*te onto my page.
Good for photos (always mindful that the things that amuse me about my two year old quite possible would bore the pants of anyone else so I keep it to a minimum).
Started playing Bandenkrieg (Gang Wars?) and, for someone who never plays computer games, have become oddly addicted to it.
Status updates are sometimes quite funny (my sister's updates always make me laugh out loud) but others ongoing commentary about "Just taken a joint of meat out of the freezer" or "Just vacuumed the lounge" are tedious and should be filtered by the Facebook police. |

I love finding the ones with 376 close, close, personal, bestest friends. These are usually accompanied by either a self taken vanity shot an almost studio portrait (these seem more popular with Swiss for some reason).
The use of the filters is really important, scary the number of people who have their address and date of birth visible. BTW Kittster, I can access your profile, though we have never met (via "people you may know").
Finally, a great read on Facebook.
