Not that the shadowy agents of darkness are necessarily interested in what a fellow drank the night before.... but I'm sure that's not all they could glean from the site.

Worrying. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the entire internet were set up with such surveillance in mind...

They're watching us.

And now for the latest Facebook news: lawyers in Australia have won the right to serve court notices by placing them on people's Facebook sites.

The world has gone mad.

a) It is a privately operated site
b) there is no guarantee that anyone would read it
c) there is no guarantee that the person indicted is the person with that Facebook account (imagine the libel ??)
d) the publicity (global) may be out of proportion with the judgement (minor)
e) it is not a public notice as membership is required, therefore the publicity is selective and may therefore be considered persecution

...but then we are talking about a system that allowed such things to be done by SMS, so common sense is not being exercised....

So if someone set up email and spoof facebook accounts in the name of well known criminals (who lets face it would be unlikely to stand up and complain) would such notice-servings be valid ? Lots of potential for abuse there, and I think the court has made a big mistake in permitting this.

It almost sounds like an urban legend.

Can you imagine dodging the creditors and then recieving an email notification: "MKM Capitol added you as a friend on Facebook. We need to confirm that you know MKM Capitol in order for you to be friends on Facebook.".

Well, if you read the BBC account of this story it's a little less dramatic. It seems that this is a one-off case and isn't intended to set any precedent. Certain safeguards were also imposed. Draw your own conclusions from this: BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | Legal papers served via Facebook
