Default Seestrasse Slow Up

Sunday 27th Sep was the "Slow Up" where the section of Seestrasse between Meilen and Rapperwil is closed for motorised traffic and is dominated by people power.

Huge numbers of people take the opportunity to cycle, skate or simply walk along the route and stop at the many refreshment stalls on the way. There were free drinks and snackie bits to compliment the general bon-homie atmosphere. It more more of a laid-back carnival feel than many of the Zürich carnivals....

A great day and even the hazards presented by the idiots on their carbon racing bikes and head to toe spandex couldn't spoil it.

It is the first one of these annual events I have seen and we enjoyed a great leisurely afternoon cycle.

Glad you had a good time, it would have been nice to attend. Could you post details of the next one before the event?

There's a bunch of these throughout the year in different places - even out here in the wilds of the Rheintal. The Zürichsee one was the last for the year. There's a website for them all here. Looks like there nearest to you is Seetal

From the list there it looks like the next one is in April 2010.

I just found out that the Slow Up took place today in Basel. I had no idea and I haven't been in town. Maybe next year .........

Zürich See SlowUp, from Meilen to Rapperswil, is on this Sunday (26th). Keeping fingers crossed for good weather.
