Shouldn't this be a Swiss national sport?

Here is a view of Cooper's Hill

And from the top:

It's not far off being classified as a cliff.

Would anybody here run down that?

I think I'd take the bull over the hill, I could run very fast from a raging bull but not sure i could bring myself to run over the top of that hill.

We did think of doing one of these up here on Flumserberg. But the locals are such a miserable group of cwunties (I think I just made that word up) they would fail to see the point of it. Mind, it would just confirm to them how crazy I really am.

In my younger days yes. This is the sort of hill college canteen trays are made for.

I don't want to be difficult, but do they have to catch the cheese? Or is the rolling cheese just the excuse to start running downhill? Is there a funny story behind it?

I think it's just an excuse (not that we need one) to drink cider and beer and do something a bit daft.

Well, I can understand the logic of running away from a raging bull, but.... running after a piece of cheese?!?!? Ils sont fous, ces Anglais!!!
