Default Twin tip skis, should I?

I'm in the market for a pair of skis and am pretty sure I know which ones I want (Völkl Race Tiger GS race stock). Because I live near a sports outlet I can get these at about 50% of the retail value but I have to wait.

I was at the outlet place on Saturday and they had some Salomon twin tips with bindings for 300chf. I'm thinking these could be a bit of a laugh and probably see me through this season since I won't be going so frequently, in the future they could serve as a pair of guest skis or for just cocking around in the fun parks.

My expectation is simply that they will be manageable on piste and be pretty flexible and forgiving in the snow parks. I have never skied on twin tips, should I go for it or will I be chucking my money away?

Neither. You could use your now defunct ironing board as a budget version snowboard...

Actually, sorry that didn't help much did it? Re: the Salomons; a friend of mine from the UK managed to pick up a discounted pair of whatever the model was 3 or 4 years ago (Axe Cleavers?) and had loads of fun on them.

Only disadvantage is that he's a bit of a err... chunky kind of guy and if we headed off piste he had to somehow find an on-piste route to meet us.

Otherwise we were digging him and his extra sandwiches out...

Its all about the toys. Go for it!

Just don't put them in the parking space next to yours while you take off your boots!

Should be fine on piste as well as off. I have a pair of Scott half twin tips (the back is lifted but not as much as the front) and they're the best overall skis I have ever owned.

Just warn anyone with you not so ski too close behind as twin tips kick up a lot more snow behind you than regular ones, particularly when going fast & straight.
