Welcome to a new feature and some suggestions for reviews

The Shooting the Cheese team is delighted to be launching a hot new feature on the Forum: Reviews. Many of us enjoy a great restaurant or love our local. Why not share that experience with your fellow Savouries?

All of us have asked ourselves which bar or restaurant to check out next and now Shooting the Cheese can help you make that decision. All reviews will include your fellow Savoury’s personal and recent experience, rather than hearsay or slick marketing speak from a tourist site.
Over time, the Forum will build up a useful database of establishments which we Savouries can happily recommend to others (or for which we can offer constructive criticism).

The Reviews section also gives you an outlet to share your recommendations with others. If you’ve never written a restaurant or bar review, don’t worry, it’s fun and easy. By following a few guidelines you can create a unique and practical review for other Savouries to enjoy. Some suggestions include:
  • Make sure the place is easy to find for others reading your review. Include address, phone, prices, web site and anything about the opening hours that would be useful to note.
  • Any information about how easy it was to get there is useful – is there parking nearby? Was it close to a tram stop or train station?
  • How many people were there? (Packed out, almost no-one there, did you have to wait? etc)
  • Was the food appropriately hot or cold? Was it plentiful or did you leave hungry? Describe the dish you particularly enjoyed (or didn’t) and why. Describe the food or drink in more than just ‘good’ or ‘bad’ – what was particularly good about it? Did it seem fresh, look appealing?
  • Anything unusual about the food or drinks?
  • What were the prices? Were the prices in line with the expected quality/quantity and with other Swiss establishments?
  • Service:
    • Were they helpful?
    • Did they rush you?
    • Did they deliver the food to the right people?
    • Were they knowledgeable?
  • Problems:
    • Was it really a problem or just different to your expectations?
    • Try to describe problems as constructive criticism rather than just being negative
  • Did anything unusual or unexpected catch your attention during your visit?
  • Anything else noteworthy?
So, get cracking, start writing and taking photos and post your reviews here. Remember this is your forum and your contributions are what makes this the fun, happening, savoury place it is!!

Your Shooting the Cheese team.

A Welcome From The Founders

Dear Member,

We are pleased to welcome you to the shootingthecheese.ch forum and hope you enjoy your time here. We appreciate your input to help us make this a vibrant community where we can exchange views and have a rewarding experience discussing life in Switzerland.

The forum was formed by three people that are no strangers to the world of forum life and have a great deal of experience in developing topics and starting lively and fun discussions. They have already made many thousands of posts and devoted a great deal of time helping build other communities.

When we considered starting the forum the most important requirement was that the forum should be a FREE service to the users. It will be funded not by donations, but the service will be maintained by unobtrusively offering good value offers to our members from selected businesses. Participation in any offers will never be a requirement, and we want to make it clear members are always free to ignore or enjoy the commercial parts of the forum as they choose.

This clear policy will allows the site not just to live, thrive and survive, but to develop and offer new functionality and exciting improvements to the users’ experience.

If you have any questions, or feedback then either post them online or send them by personal message through the site using the Contact Us button on the home page.

So all that remains is to say:

Get posting and join us shooting the breeze in Switzerland !!

Best wishes,

BarbWire, BigCheese and TJ
