Freddies Bistro It is rare that I find something good to say about Ireland, let alone Limerick but, frankly, Freddy's bistro is wasted on the natives.
A menu costs in the region of 35 Euros and features 7 each starters main courses and about 6 puddings. Some dishes feature a surcharge of 3 euros, side dishes a paltry 1.2 euros. The portions are perfect, just the right size. The cooking is perfect and organic. Having inhaled the mussels and held them upside-down to let the sauce drip onto the bread - I was so greedy I didn't even get round to trying the ladybat's fish cakes - I proceeded to the fillet steak - sublime. The home-made cider interesting, the wine card enhances the food. The waitresses are more Arnie than Ginger but what the heck. The interior is an old small stone warehouse - but it is warm, a little too warm perhaps and its in Limerick and full of natives (I hate sitting in a room of people where the women are dressed for a cocktail party and the men for turf cutting), which is why it only gets a 5 for those categories. They haven't heard of a cüpli - prosecco and champers by the bottle only the red fitted the food v. well, by the bottle or by the glass for 3.45 for a full one, no dezi bull here.
This place puts any place I have been in ZH to shame - as I said, wasted on the natives.
If you are unfortunate enough to have to go to Limerick, stay the night and reserve a table well in advance. | | Author review | | Location | | 5 | | Ambience | | 5 | | Standard of Service | | 5 | | Drinks Quality | | 7 | | Quality of Food | | 7 | | Overall Value for Money | | 8 | |
