Default sheet music

hi - can anyone recommend a good shop in zurich for buying sheet music for the piano, or better still second-hand sheet music?
cheers.

another question... what would be the quickest way by public transport to get from the main station (hb) to the corner of stockerstrasse and gothardstrasse?

thanks for your answers re: public transport - do i just buy a ticket when i'm on the tram or do i have to get a carnet or something of the sort?
i'm coming to zurich for the weekend, never been there before and know nothing about it! exciting!

To answer your second question: the ZVV website is great for this.
A search tells me that tram 6, 7 or 13 will get you from HBF to Stockerstrasse, it's then a 4 min walk down Stockerstrasse to get to the corner of Gotthardstr.

Welcome here by the way. Why don't you tell us a little about yourself, in the Introductions thread?

Two places, both within walking distance of each other. The main one is Musig-Hug which is on Limmatquai on the river , just North of Bellevue. Huge shop and the top floor is sheet music.

The other more atmospheric shop is on a street behind Niederdorf, around the corner from the Madrid restaurant on the small Gasse with the brass musical instruments repair workshop, and opposite the comic shop. They have loads of music.

Don't write off the internet though, there is lots of (primarily classical) scores available as pdfs for free.

I'll try and get the address of the second shop.

Hope this helps.

Aha, the shop is on Froschaugasse 4 Zürich 8001, and they have a website Noten Musiknoten, DVD und Musikbücher bei Noten.ch - Ihr Noten Online Shop

Enjoy tickling the ivories.

Hello,

I am BigD, and you are ...? It's nice if you introduce yourself before launching a series of questions. we're a community here and would like to welcome you to it.

The answer is yes and no. Moods is a "venue". Jazz clubs in the Prague or Paris sense, not really. jazz is scheduled at hotel bars or jazzbarrage during the week, but Moods.ch is the only place I can think of that might be presenting it at weekends. The Casa bar on Niederdorf is a small bar on Niederdorf in the old town that has live music every night, but watch the drink prices, as they cover the band cost too.

please BigD accept my apologies for not introducing myself! i live in south west france, have a busy and hectic life with children and work, don't get much time to myself and i'm off on a 3-day weekend to myself in zurich (!!!yeah!!!). This seemed like an excellent forum to find some inside information on the city.

thanks so much for your advice.

which part of the city would you say is the most relaxed/interesting/arty/hip?

I'll second the comment about keeping an eye on the drinks prices, but that does have the advantage that if the music on a given night isn't to your taste you can leave early without feeling out of pocket.
