Default Grum from Baden says hello

Short and sweet. I live in Baden, which until next Tuesday is threatening to do my head in on account of Fasnacht starting tonight. So far not as bad noise-wise as previous years, but I am probably looking forward to singing and probably bad trombone playing in the next few dys.

My thanks to those who set up this forum.

edit: Hoorah! The cow who runs the bar next door has finally shut up shop and gone home (the music finally stopped at 5:45). I can now get some sleep...

Welcome to Shooting The Cheese , Grum ! I had just had the usual Hawaii 5-0 at 0330 outside my window. Quite surreal and not unwelcome as it's only once a year. I was rolling over in my sleep whispering "Book 'em Danno, Murder One"...

Thanks BigD, All.

I think my most surreal Fasnacht experience was in a cafe one morning on my way to work. Phone went, prospective employer on the other end wanting to ask some questions and right then a couple of Fasnacht bands walked in, clearly having done an all-nighter. "That's blown it", I thought, but the interviewer thought it perfectly normal for the time of year and wanted to carry on chatting. And yes, I did get invited for a further interview.

Thanks lesley. Last night wasn't half as bad as previous years, so I didn't end up kipping on someone else's sofa after all.

My real problem last year wasn't Fasnacht itself but the whole year. "Frau Foghorn"* who has the bar next door would typically turn the music volume up after closing time and then carry on until anytime between 4:30 and 6:00, weekdays included. Repeated complaints were ignored until I threatened legal action.

* That's what I've christened her; she really does have a foghorn quality to her voice.

It's snowing now and settling too, albeit slushily. I wonder what will happen to today's parade if it persists.
