I don't "celebrate" Valentine's day. If I wanted to make someone happy by sending flowers, or to take someone for a special meal, then I would do it when it felt good, not on 14th February when restaurants are populated by sad couples feeling they must have a good time and paying inflated prices for cards, weekends away, flowers chocolates etc.
I'm not cynical about the trappings of romance, more exploitation of them at certain artificial "festivals".
