Default How big is a knob?

My dinner spinner app on my iPhone bought me up a Moroccan stew to make last night and it asked me to use a good knob of minced root ginger.

How big is a "good knob"? I was also unsure of how I would mince root ginger.

Please share any hard to define measuring terminology here, e.g. a cup, how big a cup?

I've always taken a knob to be the same size as a heaped spoon (tea- or table- depending on personal taste preferences).

As for mincing ginger, I use my garlic press.

And a cup is 250 mls, isn't it?

I was trying to judge it based on he amount I would use for butter, but obviously with something like ginger if you are out by a factor of 2x you can ruin the dish.

Before anybody calls me lazy I can't type this into Google for obvious reasons!

Knob= about the size of the last joint on your thumb. To mince fresh ginger I use the finest grade on the cheese grater or a pestle and morter, it is too hard for me to use the garlic press on. Maybe I am a weakling.

Tip for grating root ginger - deep freeze it first.

It was with some trepidation that I typed in "cup size", but I think I got away with it

US cups to weight, by ingredient

Totally off topic, a knob is around 6 feet tall and very drunk trying to teach the girl the rudiments of tennis with a tissue and biro. Thanks to his place of employment for the alcohol provision. Mummy is a shocker because she wants junior in bed
