Default London - what to do

Hi all,

I shall be in london for a week, unfortunately the Ladybat, major and minor and our neighbours as well. I am in desperate need of advice as to where:

- a decent, authentic, curry
- a traditional typical pub which serves interesting beers where I can get drunk and hopefully talk to somebody other than company.
- traditional, authentic, sit-down english food - pre Tikka that is.
- someplace trendy I can go to to drown myself in G+T's

can be found.

any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Ta muchly

it's not your first time is it?
curry in most places should be ok (as in cheaper & probably better than here) ...of course there is the famous brick lane area.
for pubs...that is a harder one, over to peachy or dave to answer that i think...

why not go to chinatown for some good chinese food? (if i recall you + dingbats are going to china in the summer no?) then u can brush up on the old mandarin whilst there...
have fun

Brick lane used to be the best place for an authentic curry. You should go to Covent Garden on a Sunday afternoon for some street theatre and the pubs there are ok.

I'd go to the Founders arms in Blackfriars for a phenomenal view of the Thames. Steer clear of St. Katherines dock, somebody recommended it to a friend of ours. Another favourite pub is the widows son. Around the Bow area it is (or at least was) really gloomy with rows of hot cross buns and hunch backed locals. Spitalfields is a good place for food as is Farringdon/Clerkenwell.
Well jealous of you.

Here are some traditional stylee central(ish) pubs worth a visit:

Lamb and Flag (1) in St Christophers Place near Selfridges (ideal respite from shopping)
Salisbury Covent Garden, WC2N 4AP
Lamb and Flag (2) Covent Garden, WC2E 9EB
Coal Hole 91 Strand, WC2R 0DW
Olde Cheshire Cheese City of London, EC4A 2BU
Grapes, Ye Mayfair, W1J 7QQ

Without more information it is a huge question.

Then get your handsom cab to take you whereever. Else you can try a few local pubs defined here. Including the intriguingly named pub:
"I Am The Only Running Footman"

Thanks for the suggestions - with 6 hanging on the coat-tails you can't do things ad-hock.

Well a thrilling time awaits me ..

we have all decided to go to Jamies juvenile deliquent rehab resti for dinner on Tuesday. I have suggested a curry on Thursday night after which I think neighbourly duty has well and truly been done and I should be in line for a DSO.

Thanks for the pubs BigD - I think I shall detach myself from the group and go on a little crawl.
