Can someone explain to me why wine by the glass is no more expensive than wine by the half-litre or even the bottle ? How does this pricing work ?

I once wanted 3dl of Offen-Wein at a cafe but hadn't consulted the menu. The waitress got very confused and said they only sold 2dl or 4dl quantities.

So I told her I would have one of each, but bring only half now. That sent her in brain-overload, and she couldn't cope. It was as though I had asked her one of those how-do-I-pour-equal-amounts-of-beer-in-each-container riddles or a Tower-of-Hanoi puzzle....

I think it's like the CFF/SBB: It's priced by the kilometre and it doesn't matter where you get on or off you pay by how far you go. Personally I prefer a volume discount system, because I tend to go a long way.
