| | Buying Wine in Switzerland
I have just been looking at the site http://www.shiraz-und-co.ch, as I fancy some wine , but without the hassle of paying premium prices at the shops, and getting some I really like (Villa Maria, Sav Blanc in my case).
It makes me wonder though whether I should stock up or just consume it as I go. Anyone here actually collect the stuff ? I know it it the pasttime of the affluent, and I can't help but think any wine that passes across doorstep will be consumed without mercy or preservation...

I have to say I've never understood people who collect wine. What comes across our threshold ends up down my throat. To have a room/fridge/cellar full would be too much temptation for my poor liver.

Having a wine collection is one of those things that I may get around to doing one day.....along with changing jobs and other stuff....
The wine just doesn't stay in the cellar long enough for it to be deemed a collection...

We have some good wines stored but we are no collectors.
The only merits I can see of storing wine, aside from ensuring you always have choice, is buying bottles that need to wait a few years to mature. Lots of French supermarkets have a section of wine you need to keep very cheap, they tell you what year it will peak, I like the idea of buying this but haven't seen it in Switzerland.
I'm talking about red here btw.

we've got a bottle of Amaretto that is only ever got out when a lot more alcohol has been ingested and we've run out of everything else. Will this mature with age or will it remain a 'what's left apart from the liquid marzipan oh go on then I'll have that' bottle in the drawer?

I went through an Absolut flavoured vodka phase (chilli, manderin etc), and I collected them all. Some of them still remain untouched...

The Citrus Vodka is good, and I especially like the vanilla vodka. Some of the others are a little yucky, and I can't understand the swiss habit of paying premum for "red vodka" which simplywhite vodka diluted with juice...
I seem to remember drinking bison-grass vodka in the Helsinki club a while back....mmmm

We used to go to a vodka club in Bangkok. Essentially it was a freezer with chairs in and vodka from all over the world. I think there were about 250 different types
