Just as straight people don't choose to want a bit of hows your father with the opposite sex, homosexuals don't choose the opposite. The level of hatred, fear and ostrascision from the general public (let alone familial disappointment) wouldn't be something someone would choose.
I think that despite your best protestations HAT, you are just being inflammatory.
Along with HAT, I'll be the other one that you're referring to then. So let me elaborate. I know of at least two people who decided to "give it a try". Therefore they made a lifestyle choice that they would not have made even as little as twenty years ago due to the stigma attached to such a choice. One decided it wasn't for them and switched back again after a couple of years and is now back in a straight relationship and is very happy. The other decided to remain that way and also is very happy.

I believe that it is more acceptable to be gay these days and, as a result, more people are choosing to give it a go. Not all I agree but imho a large percentage.

Also, I doubt that you would find anyone who would openly admit to taking such a decision lightly (especially the Swiss who do take themselves very seriously). But it's certainly an easier decision to make these days than in days gone by. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up to you as an individual to decide. Me, I don't really give a crap as long as people are happy in what they do.
