It seems that Symantec have a file in non existent folder that phones home, and they have deleted threads from their support forums further fueling conspiracy theories. This could be incredibly bad for Norton because this basically amounts to a rootkit they are installing on peoples PC's which makes them as bad as the malware and viri they claim to protect you from. |
This is all grist to the mill of tin-foil hat wearers who contend that antivirus vendors are involved in the creation and spreading of viruses. A little more transparency from these companies, however, would not go amiss.
